Villarreal president Fernando Roig discussed the intense stress and anxiety he experiences during matches ahead of his club's Champions League trip to face Liverpool at Anfield. Entering his 30th year leading the Spanish side, the 79-year-old explained that while he endures severe worry during the 90 minutes, the pride and satisfaction of delivering success to the local community makes the journey worthwhile.
Roig reflected on his ownership since taking over in May 1997, highlighting an estimated investment of around €180m to €200m in infrastructure and the academy. He credited former players such as Santi Cazorla, Pau Torres, and Ballon d'Or winner Rodri for driving Villarreal's transformation from the lower tiers into an established European competitor.
