Former Real Madrid defender David Alaba is joining Italian club Udinese on a free transfer, according to reporter Fabrizio Romano. The Austrian international had been without a club for four months following the expiration of his Real Madrid contract in June 2026, having played his final match for the Spanish side in May.
Alaba originally signed with Real Madrid in 2021, helping the team secure their 14th UEFA Champions League title during the 2021-22 season. However, Madrid opted not to renew his deal following subsequent struggles with injuries, including an ACL tear, reduced playing time, and high wages.
