Arda Guler started the game against Villarreal as a pseudo-winger on the right. He kept drifting in here and there but his starting position was the right-hand

The Real Champs writer Hridyam Arora argues that Jose Mourinho's tactical deployment of Arda Guler struggled against Villarreal because the midfielder currently lacks the controlling profile Real Madrid needed. Guler initially started as a pseudo-winger on the right before swapping positions with Fede Valverde to help Madrid retain possession.
According to Arora, Guler is not yet suited to playing as a deep-lying playmaker or controller who can slow the game down and protect against counterattacks. The writer suggests that while Guler excels as a creative attacker, Mourinho asked too much of the Turkish international in a controlling midfield role.
