Key Things to Know
  • Mustapha Hadji insists Morocco must legally be awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.
  • CAF previously granted Morocco victory after Senegal players left the pitch following a late penalty award.
  • Senegal originally won the match 1-0 in extra time through a Pape Gueye goal.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Former Moroccan international Mustapha Hadji stated that Morocco should definitely be awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title over Senegal. Although Senegal won the final 1-0 in extra time on January 18, 2026, the CAF appeal jury later awarded the victory to Morocco on March 17 because Senegal players temporarily exited the pitch after a late stoppage-time penalty was given to Brahim Diaz.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport is currently deliberating Senegal's appeal, with a final ruling expected by late November. The match had resumed after captain Sadio Mane brought his teammates back to the field, leading to Pape Gueye scoring Senegal's winner in extra time after Diaz missed the penalty, leaving the title currently contested.
