A LOOK BACK: The Manchester United manager knew he was facing down the handle of an axe before his players stepped on the pitch to face Leeds

Former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim's sacking was reportedly decided during an explosive meeting with director of football Jason Wilcox two days prior to a 1-1 draw against Leeds United. The confrontation over Amorim's insistence on using a 3-4-3 formation prompted co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazer family to back his dismissal before the match took place.
Following the draw at Elland Road, Amorim gave a defiant post-match press conference insisting on his managerial role, before chief executive Omar Berrada and Wilcox dismissed him the next morning. Current manager Michael Carrick now faces Leeds under mounting pressure, having won only one Premier League match this season.
