Manchester United players are reportedly divided after Lisandro Martinez spoke out against the club hierarchy following a 2-0 Champions League defeat against Atletico Madrid. Martinez criticized squad standards and targeted director of football Jason Wilcox over summer transfer activity. While some teammates respected Martinez's candor, others felt the public criticism worsened media scrutiny when they believed the performance was respectable.
Martinez is in the final year of his contract, though United holds an option for an additional year. Ahead of an expected defensive overhaul, Manchester United could reportedly release Martinez alongside Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw next summer if options are not exercised.
