Michael Carrick has struggled to get Manchester United firing this season, with the Reds currently 13th in the Premier League after just six games

Paul Scholes questioned whether Manchester United manager Michael Carrick privately wants to leave Old Trafford amid a poor start to the season. Carrick secured the permanent managerial role in the summer of 2026, but United currently sit 13th in the Premier League with just one win from their opening six matches. Speaking on the Good, the Bad and the Football podcast, Scholes wondered aloud if Carrick might be thinking about leaving.
Scholes also addressed speculation regarding Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler as a potential replacement, questioning how Hurzeler would cope with the intense weekly scrutiny at Manchester United. In addition, Scholes argued that club leadership should be held accountable rather than continuously dismissing managers.
