The Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) has called for all of this weekend's matches across Spain to be postponed following the death of CD Tenerife player Jesus de Miguel. The 30-year-old died on Tuesday after an on-pitch collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono, leading the players' union to state that professionals are not in the right emotional frame of mind to compete.
While several fixtures have already been officially called off—including CD Castellón against SD Eibar and Granada CF versus CD Tenerife—LaLiga announced that remaining matches will proceed and be dedicated to De Miguel. Planned tributes include a pre-match minute of silence and a designated pause in play during the ninth minute to honor his jersey number.
