Dream night for Bournemouth – win over Milan a sign of Premier League power

Bournemouth secured a 3-0 Europa League victory over AC Milan at Vitality Stadium, highlighted by Justin Kluivert scoring the opening goal. The match saw Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan sent off after 27 minutes. BBC Sport highlights how this result exemplifies the growing dominance of Premier League clubs across European competition, noting English clubs have won 21 consecutive knockout ties against foreign opposition in secondary European tournaments over two seasons.

BBC Sport points to financial superiority as the primary driver, with 15 Premier League teams featuring in Deloitte's 2026 Money List top 30. Premier League clubs generate more than £1.37bn annually from television rights and set a transfer spending record of £3.49bn in the summer. However, the report notes that this domestic financial power has not produced equivalent dominance in the Champions League.
