Arsenal included Mauricio Pochettino on their managerial shortlist in 2019 before ultimately hiring Mikel Arteta, according to a report by Sam Dean for The Telegraph. Pochettino, who had recently departed Tottenham Hotspur, was reportedly willing to engage with the club regarding the vacancy following the dismissal of Unai Emery.
The shortlist also included Roberto Martinez, Vitor Pereira, Carlo Ancelotti, Patrick Vieira, Julian Nagelsmann, and Massimiliano Allegri. Former sporting director Edu confirmed interviewing six experienced managers alongside Arteta, who impressed the club hierarchy to secure the long-term role.
