Arsenal suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season in a 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. Goals from Pascal Gross, Charalampos Kostoulas, and Chema Andres secured the victory for the hosts. Following the match, former Arsenal player and pundit Paul Merson singled out midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for criticism after his difficult full league debut.
Guimaraes struggled against Brighton's high press and was substituted in the 60th minute for Mikel Merino. Merson stated that the Brazilian midfielder was "a million miles off it" and should have been taken off at halftime. Arsenal also missed key chances through Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz during the disappointing away defeat.
