Premier League executives were discussing on Sunday whether the league should immediately suspend Manchester City from the competition, but that option is viewed as almost impossible.

Premier League executives reportedly discussed whether 15 clubs should vote to immediately suspend Manchester City from the competition, according to Miguel Delaney of The Independent. Dan Critchlow reports that while an immediate suspension is technically permitted under league rules, executives view the drastic move as having virtually no chance of actually happening.
The main concern is that Manchester City would challenge an immediate suspension in the High Court and win reinstatement. However, the Independent Commission overseeing the club's financial charges case holds the formal power to suspend or expel the club.
