Japan make Zion Suzuki call vs Uruguay amid ‘training regimen’ claims

Aston Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki was omitted from Japan's matchday squad against Uruguay following reports of a rib injury sustained with his club. Japanese outlet Hochi reported that the 24-year-old goalkeeper was placed on a separate training regimen and was seen on an exercise bike on September 21. Kashima Antlers goalkeeper Yukiki Hayakawa started the friendly match for manager Hajime Moriyasu's side, with Reo Brian Kokubo named among the substitutes.

Suzuki played the full 90 minutes in Aston Villa's Premier League victory against Tottenham prior to the international break and was not withdrawn from the national squad. He could potentially feature in Japan's upcoming fixtures against Venezuela or Ecuador.
