Referees' chief Howard Webb believes there was nothing "clearly wrong" with the decision not to send off Newcastle defender Sven Botman for his tackle on Aston Villa striker Nicolas Jackson.

Referees' chief Howard Webb defended the decision not to send off Newcastle United defender Sven Botman for a challenge on Nicolas Jackson during Aston Villa's 1-0 win on Saturday. Speaking on Match Officials Mic'd Up, Webb stated that the on-field yellow card issued by referee Jarred Gillett was not clearly wrong, and VAR Stuart Attwell correctly avoided re-refereeing the subjective incident.
Pundits including Jamie Redknapp and Dermot Gallagher had argued the challenge warranted a straight red card. Webb also confirmed that Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur's dismissal for headbutting Manchester United's Luke Shaw during their 1-1 draw was the correct outcome.
