The Story in 60 Seconds

Coventry City defeated bottom-placed Sunderland 3-1 in the Premier League, extending the Black Cats' winless run that stretches back to August. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto scored his first Premier League goal before Taiwo Awoniyi doubled the hosts' lead. Coventry added a third through Jack Rudoni's deflected effort off Omar Alderete, while Enzo Le Fee's penalty served only as a consolation for Sunderland, who also saw Alderete sent off late on.

The result lifts Coventry out of the relegation zone, leaving Regis Le Bris' side bottom with five points from nine matches. Elsewhere, Hull City drew 2-2 with Ipswich Town, Brentford climbed to sixth with a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, and Bournemouth beat Leeds United 2-0.
