Cesar Azpilicueta backs Chelsea's decision to sign experienced players this summer and believes it will help captain Reece James grow as a leader.

Former Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta believes the club's recent experienced signings will support Reece James in his leadership role. Chelsea signed veteran players over the age of 30, bringing in Jordan Henderson from Brentford, Danny Welbeck from Brighton, and Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa. James succeeded Azpilicueta as captain in 2023 at age 23.
Azpilicueta noted that James is still developing and will benefit from the veteran presence after navigating past injury struggles. Now retired and holding a sports directorship diploma, Azpilicueta also expressed confidence in manager Xabi Alonso and confirmed he plans to return to Stamford Bridge as a spectator in the future.
