Pundit Joe Cole analyzed goalkeeper Mike Penders' costly own goal during Chelsea's 2-0 Premier League defeat against Tottenham. The 21-year-old goalkeeper, who made his league debut while covering for the injured Emi Martinez, inadvertently punched the ball into his own net from a corner kick.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Cole explained that Penders was technically compromised by reaching with his right hand on a slippery pitch while lacking the strength to withstand physicality from Jan Paul van Hecke. Following the loss, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso stated that the team would look completely different by the end of the season.
