The Story in 60 Seconds

New photos taken by Yuriy Butusov have revealed the severe damage and abandoned state of Shakhtar Donetsk's home stadium, the Donbass Arena. The ground has not hosted a match since 2014 due to the conflict with Russia, leaving the venue with missing exterior panels, rust, and overgrown lawns warning of explosive objects. The images emerge as Shakhtar prepare to host AEK Athens in London at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge.

Now managed by Arda Turan, Shakhtar won the Ukrainian Premier League last season and are playing Champions League home matches in England to connect with Ukrainian refugees. Club CEO Sergei Palkin confirmed Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali supported the move to Stamford Bridge, where Shakhtar will also host Sporting Lisbon, Fenerbahce, and Real Madrid while wearing 'Invest in Ukraine' shirt slogans.
