Animal rights organization PETA has contacted Crystal Palace Chief Executive Sharon Lacey, urging the Premier League club to retire their live bald eagle mascot, Phoenix. The campaign group called for a complete end to the practice following a complaint from a supporter, citing animal welfare concerns regarding stadium crowds, bright lights, and loud noise.
Phoenix was introduced in August 2024 from the Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation to replace Kayla, who passed away in 2020. However, Phoenix has not been featured regularly at Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace has not yet officially confirmed whether they plan to permanently retire the live mascot tradition.
