Liverpool West Derby MP Ian Byrne has written to Premier League chief executive Richard Masters demanding action against poverty-related chanting following Everton's recent match against Chelsea. Sections of visiting Chelsea supporters reportedly sang chants including "sign on" during their 2-0 victory, which Byrne condemned as shameful class prejudice.
Byrne, who has worked closely with the joint Everton and Liverpool initiative Fans Supporting Foodbanks, urged the Premier League to demonstrate leadership and solidarity in tackling chants aimed at people experiencing poverty.
