The Friedkin Group confirmed it is exploring investment options and a potential sale of Everton less than two years after completing its takeover. The ownership group appointed Moelis & Company to lead the process, a development that reportedly surprised manager David Moyes. Following the announcement, football finance analyst Paul Quinn outlined seven possible reasons for the exit strategy, including lower-than-expected revenue growth, slow appreciation of club value, and the escalating costs required to compete in the Premier League.
Quinn also highlighted issues such as ongoing funding requirements, stadium returns, slow Bramley-Moore development, and legal risks. The Friedkin Group, which also owns Roma, stated that after delivering stability and finishing the stadium, the time is right to consider the club's next chapter. An asking price of around £800 million, including approximately £380 million in debt, has been mooted.
