Everton defender James Tarkowski admitted the team failed to prevent Chelsea's anticipated tactical threats during their 2-0 Premier League defeat at the Hill Dickinson. Chelsea ended Everton's unbeaten start to the season courtesy of two second-half goals from Pedro Neto, the first arriving less than a minute after the interval following a cross from Jorrel Hato.
Tarkowski expressed frustration, noting that Everton had prepared specifically for Chelsea's strategy of attacking wide areas and pulling passes back. While he acknowledged Everton were punished for failing to track back on the opener, he described Neto's 90th-minute second goal as fortunate after Everton initially cleared a free kick.
