Key Things to Know
  • Everton sold striker Beto to Fiorentina in a permanent deal worth nearly £16 million.

  • Thierno Barry remains Everton's only recognized senior striker until at least the January transfer window.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Everton entered the season with Thierno Barry as their only recognized senior striker after a series of late transfer window complications. The club sold Beto to Fiorentina for nearly £16 million, but a planned replacement deal for Monaco's Folarin Balogun collapsed late on following medical concerns and failed renegotiations. Unsuccessful enquiries were also made for Tammy Abraham and Joshua Zirkzee.

Barry, 23, has started all seven matches for Everton this season, scoring five goals across all competitions. Everton's hierarchy promised to sign a new striker in the January transfer window, leaving the squad heavily reliant on Barry staying fit and finding makeshift solutions if he becomes unavailable.
