Everton are up for sale again. Chief football writer Phil McNulty looks at what happens next as owners The Friedkin Group look for a way out.

Everton's owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), announced they are effectively putting the Premier League club up for sale less than two years after purchasing a 99.5% stake. TFG originally acquired the Merseyside club in December 2024 for over £400m, but football finance expert Kieran Maguire expects an asking price between £750m and £800m, with a buyer taking on roughly £468m in debt.
BBC Sport's Phil McNulty writes that TFG's tenure was strained by distant leadership, including chairman Dan Friedkin never attending a match or speaking with manager David Moyes. Fan relationships worsened following a chaotic summer transfer window and a recent £38m payout over historical financial rule breaches, prompting TFG to explore a swift exit.
