Ipswich Town midfielder Marcelino Núñez departed the Chile national squad following frustration over his lack of playing time against the United States and manager Nicolás Córdova's public comments. According to Chilean outlet La Tercera, Núñez felt his Premier League experience deserved greater consideration, and multiple Chile players now question Córdova's leadership after he publicly highlighted individual errors.
Córdova's standing as interim manager has also been weakened by Flamengo midfielder Erick Pulgar's refusal to join the squad for the North American tour.
