An ex-Liverpool ace cost his club a huge sum of money every time he played over 20 minutes of football…

Former Liverpool and Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had a specific contract clause requiring Arsenal to pay Southampton £10,000 every time he played at least 20 minutes in a match. The details, documented in Alan Gernon's 2018 book, explained why manager Arsene Wenger frequently brought the player on as a late substitute on or after the 71st minute.
Oxlade-Chamberlain moved from Southampton to Arsenal in 2011 for an initial £12 million fee with £3 million in potential add-ons. Arsenal ultimately paid approximately £1.4 million in appearance-related fees during his six-year stay before selling him to Liverpool for £40 million in 2017.
