Kylian Mbappe reveals how close he came to Liverpool transfer: ‘My mum wanted me to go’

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he came close to joining Liverpool in 2017 before ultimately choosing Paris Saint-Germain. Speaking to The Athletic, the France international explained that his mother strongly preferred Liverpool and urged him to play under then-manager Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Mbappe ultimately rejected the move, choosing a loan with a €180m mandatory purchase option to his hometown club PSG before leaving for Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2024. In a separate interview with RFI, Mbappe also voiced optimism about winning the Ballon d'Or.
