Report: Xabi Alonso wants reunion with former star

Peter Staunton reports that Trent Alexander-Arnold faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid, with speculation growing over a potential return to the Premier League. The right-back, who joined Madrid from Liverpool in 2025, has reportedly slipped down the pecking order behind Denzel Dumfries and Federico Valverde under Jose Mourinho. The writer claims Xabi Alonso is targeting a reunion with his former player amid links with a transfer away from Spain.

Chelsea reportedly hold an interest in signing Alexander-Arnold as Malo Gusto is placed up for sale, while Manchester City and Liverpool have also been linked. Staunton argues Liverpool have struggled to replace Alexander-Arnold's output, though re-signing the defender from Real Madrid on a permanent deal would come at a significant financial cost given his long-term contract through 2031.
