The head of referees has spoken about the decision to let Erling Haaland's goal stand during the Manchester Derby

Referees chief Howard Webb revealed he made two phone calls to Manchester United officials to apologize for a significant refereeing error during their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City. The controversy centered on Erling Haaland's second-half goal, which was allowed to stand following a VAR review despite an offside player appearing to interfere with play.
Webb spoke with United director of football Jason Wilcox and club secretary Rebecca Britain, describing the mistake as an impactful error rather than a judgment call. The match officials, including referee Michael Oliver and VAR Matt Donohue, subsequently took part in internal reviews and meetings to analyze the incident.
