Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy warned that Manchester City could face expulsion from the Premier League if their appeal against financial breach rulings fails. An independent commission reportedly found the club guilty of arranged "sham" commercial deals totaling around £900 million between 2009 and 2018. Speaking on Channel 5, Nandy emphasized that while City is entitled to a fair hearing, expulsion remains a very serious ultimate sanction under league rules.
Manchester City deny all wrongdoing, stating they have irrefutable evidence and will appeal the verdict. The ruling drew sharp criticism across the sport, with former Manchester United captain Roy Keane labeling the actions cheating and urging players to discard their medals. Former City chairman David Bernstein called for non-financial punishments and an immediate board suspension, while financial experts evaluated the possibility of external legal court challenges.
