Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany was taken to the hospital on Friday after collapsing while watching a reserve team training session. An air ambulance was spotted landing at Bayern's training facility to provide medical assistance. The German club confirmed that Kompany is undergoing thorough examinations, will remain under medical supervision, and his coaching staff will take charge of training and matches until further notice.
The medical emergency comes after the 40-year-old former Manchester City captain had been dealing with a viral infection over the past week. Kompany had previously rested during half-time of a 6-1 win over Leipzig, missed several training sessions, and admitted he pushed himself too hard prior to Bayern's 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
