Manchester City are appealing against a guilty verdict for 114 alleged financial fair play breaches

Manchester City are reportedly not expected to face outright expulsion from the Premier League if their appeal against 114 financial breaches fails, according to rival club executives. A three-person commission found City guilty of inflating revenue through alleged sham sponsorship deals between 2009 and 2018. City strongly deny the accusations, claim they have irrefutable evidence of innocence, and are actively appealing the decision.
Direct expulsion requires a vote supported by at least 14 Premier League member clubs, making alternative penalties such as fines or severe points deductions far more likely. Discussions among executives include the possibility of a points deduction severe enough to cause relegation, or multi-season deductions to hinder European qualification. Championship clubs also harbor concerns that a relegated City side would swiftly secure promotion back to the top flight.
