Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly turned down Arsenal to join Manchester United in 1986, a decision that changed the club's history and legacy.

Former Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson was offered the Arsenal managerial job in 1986 before ultimately choosing Manchester United. The discussion took place during the 1986 FIFA World Cup while Ferguson was managing Scotland. Nicholas had encouraged Ferguson to join Arsenal, believing the club needed a manager to take control of the dressing room.
According to Nicholas, Ferguson was highly impressed by Arsenal and had received a contract offer. However, the legendary Scottish manager ultimately turned down the Gunners because he had already given his word to Manchester United. Ferguson went on to join United in November 1986, leading them to numerous trophies over a 26-year tenure.
