Flavio Goncalves: Man United plan £42m January bid for Sporting Lisbon star

Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly preparing January transfer bids in the region of €45 million to €50 million (£42 million) for Sporting CP winger Flavio Goncalves. The 19-year-old attacker has broken into Sporting's senior side this season, registering three goals and one assist across nine appearances. Both English clubs have reportedly scouted the Portuguese youth international extensively to help bolster their attacking options.

Goncalves is currently under contract until 2030 with a €60 million release clause, though Sporting CP is trying to negotiate a new deal featuring a higher exit fee. United is looking for attacking reinforcements after scoring just 15 goals in 11 matches across all competitions this season. However, The Peoples Person notes that reports of an imminent January bid may be premature.
