JJ Gabriel is at the centre of a tug of war after requesting to be freed by Manchester United

Manchester United have rejected a request from 15-year-old wonderkid JJ Gabriel to be de-registered by the club. Gabriel has reportedly traveled to Barcelona for talks regarding a potential move, with European clubs Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also showing interest. Former striker Jay Bothroyd defended Gabriel's parents against criticism from pundit Simon Jordan, stating they simply want the best path for their son's development.
Gabriel's request caused United to scrap plans to include him in their senior Carabao Cup match against Brighton, which would have made him their youngest-ever player. Although Gabriel cannot sign for another Premier League side while registered with United, his eligibility for an EU passport could enable a free transfer abroad after his 16th birthday on October 6.
