Michael Carrick's struggles at Manchester United have raised questions about his methods compared to predecessor Ruben Amorim, with one former star opening up about their differences…

Former Manchester United academy player James Overy has detailed the contrasting coaching styles of Michael Carrick and Ruben Amorim. Speaking to Suited and Booted TV, the 18-year-old right-back explained that Amorim prioritized high-intensity transitional running and physical conditioning to support wing-backs. In contrast, Overy stated that Carrick focuses heavily on technical possession, quick passing, and tactical methods to break down opponents.
Overy left Old Trafford in the summer of 2026 to join Sydney FC after spending two years in Manchester United's youth setup. The revelation comes amid reported pressure on Carrick, with United going winless in six matches following a draw against Leeds. Amorim has since moved on to manage Serie A side AC Milan.
