The Story in 60 Seconds

Manchester United youngster JJ Gabriel has reportedly decided to leave the club and requested to be de-registered, allowing him to leave as a free agent. Chelsea has emerged as the 15-year-old's preferred destination if he chooses to remain in the Premier League. Barcelona and Real Madrid have also shown interest in the teenager, who turns 16 on October 6.

Manchester United would be entitled to compensation if Gabriel departs, which could reach millions of pounds if he signs with an English club. However, Chelsea would have to wait until January to finalize any move due to a nine-month ban on signing academy players imposed in March. A move to a Spanish club would yield a considerably lower, tariff-based compensation fee.
