The Story in 60 Seconds

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has defended Lisandro Martinez's commitment following the defender's red card in a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. Despite Martinez's upcoming contract expiry in the summer and recent public criticism of director of football Jason Wilcox, Carrick insisted he has no concerns regarding player commitment. United also reportedly made contact with the representatives of Bayern Munich's 18-year-old attacking midfielder Lennart Karl ahead of a pivotal Champions League match against Roma.

According to Bild, Karl could be available for around £50 million following friction caused by public comments from Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeness. Arsenal and Liverpool are also reportedly monitoring the German international. Meanwhile, Carrick confirmed there are no updates regarding contract extensions for either Martinez or Bruno Fernandes, leaving both eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs in January.
