FC Twente have devised a masterplan to thwart Manchester United's January transfer swoop for defensive prodigy Ruud Nijstad.

FC Twente are reportedly preparing a new contract offer for 18-year-old central defender Ruud Nijstad in an effort to thwart Manchester United's potential January move. Nijstad is currently under contract until 2029, but Twente hope that agreeing to fresh terms will increase his valuation to around €40 million (£33.3 million) and discourage winter approaches.
Manchester United are searching for defensive additions, but they face competition from European rivals. Barcelona previously had an €8 million (£6.7 million) offer rejected and are reportedly ready to propose up to €25 million (£20.8 million), while Bayern Munich are also monitoring the defender.
