Former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo reveals why he chose not to retire from international football after the 2026 World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed he considered retiring from international duty following Portugal's 1-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16. However, the 41-year-old forward opted to continue after discussions with the national team's president and new manager Jorge Jesus. Ronaldo is confirmed to start Thursday's UEFA Nations League match against Wales at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.
The Al-Nassr forward, who holds the record of 146 goals in 233 appearances for Portugal, stated he can still contribute both on and off the pitch. Ronaldo addressed recent criticism and fan polls, asserting that he remains determined to help the national team win games despite facing outside scrutiny.
