Wayne Rooney reveals the TWO clubs he couldn’t refuse after four ‘difficult’ managerial jobs – then admits harsh truth he may never return to dugout

Former England captain Wayne Rooney revealed he would only consider returning to management for Everton or Manchester United. Speaking on Virgin Radio while promoting his family documentary, the 40-year-old acknowledged that returning to the dugout remains very unlikely following four difficult coaching jobs. When asked which role he would prefer, Rooney responded that he would take whichever offer came first.

Rooney has been out of management since departing Plymouth Argyle by mutual consent in December 2024, following previous stints at Derby County, DC United, and Birmingham City. He stated that he may never manage again and is currently focusing on his punditry role with Match of the Day.
