Wayne Rooney says Manchester City should not be stripped of titles for rules breach

Wayne Rooney stated that Manchester City should not be stripped of their titles for breaching Premier League financial rules. Speaking on the Stick to United podcast, the former Manchester United forward explained he would feel uncomfortable retroactively receiving the 2011-12 title medal, noting it would be unfair to the players and staff whose on-pitch efforts earned the trophies.

Rooney instead suggested that Manchester City should be relegated to the lowest possible league and face multi-year spending restrictions if found guilty. Meanwhile, La Liga president Javier Tebas called for severe punishment to set an example across European football, while City continue to deny wrongdoing and intend to appeal.
