The Aston Villa forward almost joined Newcastle in the summer transfer window

Aston Villa forward Johan Manzambi scored the winning goal against Newcastle United at St James' Park before departing the match with an injury from a kick by Joelinton. After the narrow victory, the Swiss international explained that he chose to join Aston Villa over Newcastle because of manager Unai Emery and the club's quality, which he experienced when facing them in the Europa League final.
Newcastle had previously agreed to a £51 million permanent transfer fee with SC Freiburg alongside verbal terms before Manzambi chose Aston Villa at the last minute. Following the match, Villa manager Unai Emery praised the forward's physical impact, intelligence, and overall performance in securing the three points.
