The Magpies were woeful at Coventry City as the newly promoted side schooled Newcastle on disastrous night

Newcastle United suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat against Coventry City in a difficult match for manager Matthias Jaissle's side. The hosts took the lead through a Jack Rudoni penalty after Lukas Hornicek fouled Sidiki Cherif, before Cherif made it 2-0 early in the second half. Sven Botman pulled a goal back for Newcastle, but late finishes from Ellis Simms and Stephen Mfuni sealed the victory for Coventry.
In his post-match player ratings, Lee Ryder awarded multiple Newcastle starters ratings as low as 3/10 following defensive lapses and missed chances. Midfielders Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy received 3/10 marks, while several defenders, including Hornicek, Malick Thiaw, and Botman, were given 4/10.
