A minute's applause was held before kickoff at the Stadium of Light during the Sunderland against Brighton match, where photos of 17-year-old Jackson Duke and 16-year-olds Luke Etheridge and Zara Shaw were displayed. The three Sunderland College students died on September 29 after a black Audi A3 entered the water at Panns Bank near Wearmouth Bridge. A 17-year-old boy survived and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving before being released on bail. Sunderland AFC's charity, Foundation of Light, mourned Duke, who participated in its scholarship program.
