Sunderland could sign January reinforcements but still be unable to use them in two European fixtures.

Sunderland could sign reinforcements during the January transfer window but will remain unable to field them for their final two Europa League group matches. UEFA registration rules dictate that new signings cannot be added until the knockout stage, leaving Florent Ghisolfi and Kyril Louis-Dreyfus unable to field new arrivals against Anderlecht on January 21 or Levski Sofia on January 28.
Clubs that advance beyond the league phase can register up to three new eligible players by February 4, 2027. Manager Regis Le Bris would have to balance any new transfers against currently omitted players, including Chemsdine Talbi and Jocelin Ta Bi, for those three knockout phase spots.
