Tom Burwell has left his position as Sunderland's interim Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect
Tom Burwell has left his position as Sunderland's interim chief executive officer with immediate effect after just five months in the role. The club confirmed the departure through a brief official statement thanking Burwell for his contributions, while also announcing that majority owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus will step in as executive chairman to lead day-to-day operations.
Burwell had been appointed to replace David Bruce and possessed a wide executive remit, collaborating closely with director of football Florent Ghisolfi during the summer transfer window. Despite speaking publicly last month regarding long-term commercial growth and initial plans for the upcoming January transfer window, Burwell will have no further involvement with the club's business.
