The attacker was one of the north London club's biggest transfer deadline signings and he admits making a mistake in leaving Tottenham

Former Tottenham Hotspur attacker Rafael van der Vaart has admitted on the Phrasenmaher podcast that leaving Spurs to rejoin Hamburg in 2012 was a mistake. The Dutchman stated that although he returned to help HSV avoid relegation, the move was not the best sporting decision since he was at the peak of his career in north London.
Van der Vaart joined Tottenham from Real Madrid on deadline day in summer 2010 for £8 million, recording 46 goal involvements in 77 matches under Harry Redknapp. He explained that his departure was influenced by personal reasons and new manager Andre Villas-Boas indicating he was no longer the primary option.
