The Story in 60 Seconds

Former Aberdeen midfielder Leighton Clarkson revealed he unsuccessfully urged the club to sign Liverpool left-back Owen Beck. Speaking to Record Sport, Clarkson explained that after completing his permanent move to Pittodrie in 2023, then-manager Barry Robson asked him for squad recommendations. Although Clarkson pushed for Beck, Aberdeen chiefs decided to pursue an alternative target, leading Beck to join Dundee instead.

Clarkson also discussed helping bring Liverpool defender Rhys Williams to Aberdeen on loan in 2023. Williams struggled with injuries, failed to make a first-team appearance, and had his loan terminated early in January 2024.
