Kasper Schmeichel’s Celtic career was never supposed to finish the way it did. The Danish goalkeeper was forced to retire in May after a shoulder…

Peter Schmeichel has revealed the emotional difficulty his son Kasper is facing following his abrupt retirement from football after leaving Celtic. Kasper was forced to retire in May due to a career-ending shoulder injury, taking away his chance to step away on his own terms. Speaking to talkSPORT, Peter described the sudden loss of identity that occurs when an unexpected injury halts an athlete's career.
The abrupt end prevented Kasper from making a farewell appearance at Parkhead or thanking the Celtic supporters. Just months prior to retiring, the Danish goalkeeper was still serving as the club's first-choice option in goal, and he is now navigating his next steps in life outside of playing.
